Community Center

The Bowling Green Training and Community Center, located at 1245 W Newton Road in Bowling Green, is a 79,000 square-foot recreation facility built through collaboration by the Ohio Army National Guard, Wood County Board of Developmental Disabilities, and the City of Bowling Green. The community center offers great recreational, educational and social opportunities for all ages.  The facility features include a multi-court gymnasium; a second large gymnasium, 1/8 mile track, fitness center, classrooms/meeting rooms, recreational & fitness activity spaces,  locker rooms, customer service counter, and offices for Department Staff.  The Bowling Green Parks & Recreation Athletic Fields and the Bowling Green Obstacle Course Trail are also located behind the Community Center.   For more information about what our facility has to offer visit our Facility Features page or view a video about the Bowling Green Community Center.

  • Monday through Thursday 5:30 am to 8 pm 
  • Friday  5:30 am to 7 pm     
  • Saturday and Sunday   10 am to 5 pm

The Bowling Green Community Center is closed in observance of the following holidays:

Reduced Hours

The facility has reduced hours of operation from 7 am to 12 pm on the following days:

  • Martin Luther King Jr. Day
  • President's Day
  • Veteran's Day
  • Day after Thanksgiving 
  • Christmas Eve 
  • New Year's Eve
  • Juneteenth

General Facility Policies

  1. Pass holders must swipe in and out for access to the Center.
  2. No chewing gum anywhere in the facility.
  3. Food and drinks (other than water) must be consumed in lobby only.
  4. No running except in the gym or on the track.
  5. Shirts and shoes must be worn at all times and in all public areas including the gymnasium, hallways, lobby, classrooms, and fitness areas.
  6. Smoking, including use of e-cigarettes, and/or use of any type of smokeless tobacco is prohibited in the facility and on the grounds.
  7. No alcoholic beverages are permitted on the premise of the Bowling Green Community Center.
  8. Patrons using Bowling Green Community Center facilities and equipment do so at their own risk, and agree to hold harmless the City of Bowling Green, its representatives, successors and agents from any loss or injury resulting from use thereof.
  9. Disorderly conduct/fighting, abuse of the facility/equipment, theft, or verbal/physical abuse directed towards staff or other users of the facility will result in immediate dismissal from the facility. Additional sanctions may include: disciplinary action, reimbursement for damages, and/or potential suspension from the facilities and programs.
  10. No persons shall operate a personal business, sell, or offer for sale any article or service in the Bowling Green Community Center unless such sale or offer is pursuant to a contract with the department.
  11. The City of Bowling Green, its representatives, successors and agents are not responsible for lost or stolen property. It is highly encouraged that all persons lock up any valuables.
  12. All accidents/injuries requiring assistance will require a staff member to complete an Incident Report. Cooperation in obtaining patron information is requested.
  13. Patrons are not permitted to carry a concealed firearm within the Bowling Green Community Center.
  14. Additional guidelines deemed necessary for the safety and comfort of facility patrons will be enforced.

Age Use Policies

  • Children 8 years of age and younger must be accompanied by a responsible caregiver (16 years of age or older) to enter the facility and cannot be left unattended while in the facility.
  • Children ages 9 and up are permitted to be dropped off but they must have emergency contact information on file at the front desk.
  • Children under 13 are not permitted in the building one hour before stated closing time unless accompanied by a responsible caregiver (16 years of age or older).
  • Children under the age of 13 will be allowed to use the gymnasium, game area, lobby/concessions area, and lobby area restrooms. They will not be permitted to use the locker rooms, or to use the track without being accompanied by an adult and will not be permitted to use any fitness equipment on the 2nd floor or in the Fitness Studio without meeting the requirements listed below.
  • Children 13, 14, and 15 must complete our 3 session Teen Strength and Fitness class before they may use the fitness equipment. Parents wishing to discuss a workout plan for their child under 13 may set up an appointment to discuss the possibility with our Fitness Manager and possibly be granted approval for a Parent Child Pass.
