Community Center
The Bowling Green Training and Community Center, located at 1245 W Newton Road in Bowling Green, is a 79,000 square-foot recreation facility built through collaboration by the Ohio Army National Guard, Wood County Board of Developmental Disabilities, and the City of Bowling Green. The community center offers great recreational, educational and social opportunities for all ages. The facility features include a multi-court gymnasium; a second large gymnasium, 1/8 mile track, fitness center, classrooms/meeting rooms, recreational & fitness activity spaces, locker rooms, customer service counter, and offices for Department Staff. The Bowling Green Parks & Recreation Athletic Fields and the Bowling Green Obstacle Course Trail are also located behind the Community Center. - Friday 5:30 am to 7 pm
- Saturday and Sunday 10 am to 5 pm

The Bowling Green Community Center is closed in observance of the following holidays:

- Independence Day
- Labor Day
- Thanksgiving Day
- Christmas Day
- Easter Sunday
Reduced Hours
The facility has reduced hours of operation from 7 am to 12 pm on the following days:
- Martin Luther King Jr. Day
- President's Day
- Veteran's Day
- Day after Thanksgiving
- Christmas Eve
- New Year's Eve
- Juneteenth
General Facility Policies
- Pass holders must swipe in and out for access to the Center.
- No chewing gum anywhere in the facility.
- Food and drinks (other than water) must be consumed in lobby only.
- No running except in the gym or on the track.
- Shirts and shoes must be worn at all times and in all public areas including the gymnasium, hallways, lobby, classrooms, and fitness areas.
- Smoking, including use of e-cigarettes, and/or use of any type of smokeless tobacco is prohibited in the facility and on the grounds.
- No alcoholic beverages are permitted on the premise of the Bowling Green Community Center.
- Patrons using Bowling Green Community Center facilities and equipment do so at their own risk, and agree to hold harmless the City of Bowling Green, its representatives, successors and agents from any loss or injury resulting from use thereof.
- Disorderly conduct/fighting, abuse of the facility/equipment, theft, or verbal/physical abuse directed towards staff or other users of the facility will result in immediate dismissal from the facility. Additional sanctions may include: disciplinary action, reimbursement for damages, and/or potential suspension from the facilities and programs.
- No persons shall operate a personal business, sell, or offer for sale any article or service in the Bowling Green Community Center unless such sale or offer is pursuant to a contract with the department.
- The City of Bowling Green, its representatives, successors and agents are not responsible for lost or stolen property. It is highly encouraged that all persons lock up any valuables.
- All accidents/injuries requiring assistance will require a staff member to complete an Incident Report. Cooperation in obtaining patron information is requested.
- Patrons are not permitted to carry a concealed firearm within the Bowling Green Community Center.
- Additional guidelines deemed necessary for the safety and comfort of facility patrons will be enforced.
Age Use Policies
- Children 8 years of age and younger must be accompanied by a responsible caregiver (16 years of age or older) to enter the facility and cannot be left unattended while in the facility.
- Children ages 9 and up are permitted to be dropped off but they must have emergency contact information on file at the front desk.
- Children under 13 are not permitted in the building one hour before stated closing time unless accompanied by a responsible caregiver (16 years of age or older).
- Children under the age of 13 will be allowed to use the gymnasium, game area, lobby/concessions area, and lobby area restrooms. They will not be permitted to use the locker rooms, or to use the track without being accompanied by an adult and will not be permitted to use any fitness equipment on the 2nd floor or in the Fitness Studio without meeting the requirements listed below.
- Children 13, 14, and 15 must complete our 3 session Teen Strength and Fitness class before they may use the fitness equipment. Parents wishing to discuss a workout plan for their child under 13 may set up an appointment to discuss the possibility with our Fitness Manager and possibly be granted approval for a Parent Child Pass.
- Children 16 and 17 must complete a one session orientation before they may use the fitness equipment
Locker Room Policies
- Children 3 years of age and older must use gender appropriate locker room or Special Accommodations Locker Room.
- Children under the age of 13 will not be permitted in the locker rooms unless accompanied by an adult. Restrooms located off the lobby near the concessions area may be used.
- Camera usage is not permitted in the locker rooms.
- Please report any suspicious behavior to a staff member.
- Locks must be removed from non-rented lockers prior to facility closing each day. Bowling Green Community Center staff will cut off all remaining locks and place the contents in the lost and found.
Gymnasium Policies
- No vulgar language or profanity.
- No fighting or spitting.
- Shirts and Shoes required at all times, shoes that mark the floor are prohibited. No playing basketball
shirts and skins
will be permitted in the gymnasium. - Respect other guests and patrons right to use the facility as well. You may be asked to play only at one basket during crowded times.
- No dunking or hanging on the rims or nets.
- No food or drinks in the gymnasium, only water is permitted.
- Throw away your trash.
- Respecting the facility, equipment and others is a must.
- No persons shall sell or offer for sale any article or service in the Bowling Green Community Center unless such sale or offer is pursuant to a contract with the department.
- If you observe any problems please report them to Gym Monitor on duty or to the front desk staff person on duty.
Track Policies
- Be courteous to others.
- Obey the posted lane directional guidelines.
- Use proper lanes designated for walking or running.
- Pass with caution.
- Enter and exit the track carefully.
- Avoid sudden stops and being stationary.
- Closed-toe shoes are required, no spikes permitted.
- Skates, rollerblades, skateboards are prohibited. Stroller use on track may be restricted to off-peak hours (8 am to 3 pm) unless track is not crowded.
- Food is prohibited, drinks must be in closed containers.
- Any other guidelines deemed necessary for the safety and comfort of the patron will be enforced.
Fitness Center
- Respect fellow patrons, staff, equipment and facility.
- Safe and proper work-out attire is required (shirt, shorts/pants, closed-toe shoes).
- Use provided cleaning materials to wipe down equipment after each use.
- Keep trip hazards such as bags and personal items off the floor.
- Do not remove heavy weights, benches or large equipment.
- Always lift in a safe manner and use a spotter when appropriate.
- In case of equipment malfunction, please notify staff on duty.
- Re-rack weight plates and dumbbells; return all equipment to proper location after use.
- Avoid banging/dropping weights and dumbbells.
- Food is prohibited; drinks must be in closed containers.
- Children 13, 14, and 15 must complete our 3 session Teen Strength and Fitness class before they may use the fitness equipment. Children 16 and 17 must complete a one session orientation before they may use the fitness equipment
- Televisions on the Fitness Floor are on a first come, first serve basis. If you would like to request a channel change, please see fitness attendant. Priority will be given to those individuals on cardio equipment facing the televisions.
- Any other guidelines deemed necessary for the safety and comfort of the patron will be enforced.
